Who May Be Involved in an Addition
An addition may need design, structural, trade, and municipal input before construction is defined.
Start with the concept
A designer or architect can translate needs into a layout and exterior proposal. Existing conditions should be measured before the design is finalized.
Resolve technical questions
An engineer or trade professional may be needed for structure, mechanical systems, or site conditions. Roles depend on the actual scope.
Know who coordinates
Ask who obtains approvals, shares revisions, tracks selections, and resolves conflicts between drawings and field conditions. Put that responsibility in writing.
Bring this into the planning conversation
Ask who owns the complete drawing set and who updates it when site conditions change. A contractor, designer, architect, engineer, and specialty trades may each contribute, but someone must reconcile their work. Put approval steps on the schedule so the design is coordinated before materials are ordered or permits submitted.
