Cabinet Replacement or Refacing?
The choice depends on cabinet condition, desired layout, and how much function needs to change.
Inspect the boxes
Check whether cabinet boxes are sound, level, and arranged for current use. Refacing cannot fix a poor layout or damaged structure.
Compare scope honestly
New cabinets may allow better storage and appliance placement, but can pull counters, backsplash, flooring, and utilities into the job.
Price the complete result
Compare finished scopes with hardware, end panels, trim, counters, and labor included. The smallest initial scope is not always the smallest total project.
Bring this into the planning conversation
Refacing is strongest when the boxes, layout, and cabinet depths already work. Walk each cabinet and note sagging shelves, awkward corner access, and door clearance. Ask both bidders to include visible end panels, trim, hardware, and repairs. If you expect to move appliances, compare a full remodel scope; cabinet faces alone cannot solve that layout.
