Kitchen Storage Decisions That Change the Plan
Storage works best when its dimensions match the objects and habits it serves.
Inventory the awkward items
Measure large pots, trays, mixers, recycling bins, and pantry packages. Put heavy or frequent items near where they are used.
Use corners deliberately
A corner can take a specialized fitting, a simple shelf, or be left to adjacent drawers. Compare access and cost, not just theoretical volume.
Leave room to adapt
Choose a mix of drawers, adjustable shelves, and open space. Plan outlets or lighting only after the cabinet layout is defined.
Bring this into the planning conversation
Drawers can be easier to use than deep lower shelves, but their height and width must fit what goes inside. Test where cookware will land beside the range and where breakfast items will be stored. If an appliance is used every day, give it a permanent place with a safe outlet rather than relying on a crowded counter.
